Antique Silver, Gold, Demantoid Garnet and Diamond Turtle Pin — Antique Silver, Gold, Demantoid Garnet and Diamond Turtle Pin The oval shell centering one cushion-shaped demantoid garnet approximately .70 ct., framed by 7 round demantoid garnets approximately .85 ct. and one emerald, bordered by two rows of rose-cut diamonds, its head and feet set with round demantoid garnets, with 2 small round ruby eyes, circa 1905, one demantoid garnet replaced by one emerald, approximately 5.4 dwts. Demantoid garnets: very bright medium to deep lime green, slightly to moderately included, moderately abraded facet junctions on center panel, not easily visible to eye, one stone replaced with an emerald, lively. Good condition. Normal wear. Brooch fitting detachable. 13/16 x 1 3/16 inches. Sold for $5,000 (includes buyer’s premium) at Doyle New York in 2017

Total garnet weight 3.39cts. French assay marks. Length 3.9cms. Weight 9.9gms. Overall condition good. Surface scratches/wear in keeping with general age and wear. Engraving to reverse d 23rd August 1853. Replacement stones, maybe adapted from another jewellery item. Diamonds well matched. Diamonds bright. Cut and setting of rose-cut diamonds prevents total carat weight estimation. Individual size and setting of diamonds prevents accurate colour and clarity assessment. Garnets a well matched medium to deep reddish purple hue, well saturated, with good clarity and typical inclusions. Stones in good condition with some minor nibbles to the facet edges. Sold for £680 at Fellows in 2018
